Former University of Minnesota-Duluth head coach Mike Sertich has passed away at the age of 77, the team announced Thursday.

Hailing from Virginia, Minn., Sertich first joined the Bulldogs as a player in the 1966-67 season. Over three seasons with the team, Sertich collected nine points in 64 games before his playing career came to an end.
While he spent more than a decade away from the Bulldogs, Sertich got his first coaching gig when he re-joined the team as their head coach for the 1982-83 season. In his first season with the team, Sertich would guide the Bulldogs to a 28-16-1 record.
In 18 years behind the bench, Sertich would guide the program to a 350-328-44 record, winning three WCHA regular season titles, two league playoff championships as well as being named the WCHA Coach of the Year four times.
After his storied career with the Bulldogs, Sertich would serve as the head coach of Michigan Tech for three seasons from 2000-2003. He also worked for College of St. Scholastica (NCAA D-III) as a team consultant during the 2009-10 season.
Sertich was inducted into the Minnesota-Duluth Hall of Fame in 2005.
