She may currently hold multiple major jobs in television, but that didn’t stop Kelly Ripa from having a rather humbling moment during Thursday’s episode of Generation Gap.
Ripa serves as host of the ABC comedy game show, which pairs children with older adults to answer pop culture-related questions from both past and present generations. Each week the show features a “Mystery Celebrity” who comes on for a round to ask a series of questions before eventually becoming a question themselves.
This week, that celebrity was actress Cheryl Ladd of Charlie’s Angels fame, and one of the questions she asked was in reference to a previous time that she collaborated with Ripa.
“I guest-starred on a sitcom called Hope & Faith, starring Faith Ford and who?” Ladd asked.
The question was intended for a child contestant named Ryan who incorrectly answered, “Kevin Hart.” And if that initial person gets the answer wrong, it then opens up for anyone else from the other two teams to steal, including the older players. But nobody buzzed in to take this one, and the allotted time ran out.
Ouch.
“The answer,” said Ripa, feigning anger, “is me. Me!”
That’s right, Ripa starred on the ABC sitcom for three seasons from 2003 to 2006 alongside Faith Ford. Ladd was one of many notable guest stars that included
“Mystery Celebrity, I get no respect around here,” Ripa then added with a smile.
Along with Generation Gap which premiered in the summer of 2022 with Mark Burnett, Jimmy Kimmel and Barry Poznick serving as executive producers, Ripa has also been the host of the syndicated morning talk show Live! with Kelly and Mark, in various iterations, since 2001. She also appeared on the soap opera All My Children from 1990-2002 and again in 2010.
Perhaps a question about one of those shows would have gotten a correct answer?
Generation Gap airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
